It doesn’t seem like Lucas Bravo is looking forward to season 5 of Netflix’s Emily in Paris.

Bravo, 36, has played Gabriel, the hot, French chef neighbor and love interest to Lily Collins’ Emily, since season 1. He reprised the role for season 4, which premiered on Netflix in August 2024, but has yet to confirm his return for the show’s fifth season.

Netflix renewed the series for season 5 in September. Since then, Bravo has spoken about the future of the series in several interviews. Speaking with the French outlet La Figaro in October 2024, Bravo expressed his hesitation about playing Gabriel, citing a lack of “freedom” in the role and further casting doubts on his future on the show.

Bravo has branched out to roles beyond the Netflix series, and is currently starring in Libre, a French heist romance film coming to Amazon Prime video in November. Despite his hesitation, he told The Telegraph on October 26 that he has no plans to leave Emily in Paris for season 5.

The trailer for the second part of Emily in Paris‘ fourth season has Us wondering whether Emily and Gabriel could be over just as they finally started. Netflix released a sneak peek clip on Monday, August 26, which showed Emily (Lily Collins) and Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) navigating their new relationship, which isn’t off to a […]

“[Emily in Paris creator Darren Star] is the first person who took a chance on me, and I’ll always be here for him,” Bravo told the outlet. “I want to tell meaningful stories. About what we’re talking about, not what we look like.”

A Lack of Freedom

Bravo described his character’s on-again, off-again romance with Collins’ Emily as “archaic” in an October 2024 interview with Le Figaro in October, adding that he wanted Gabriel to have more “panache.”

“Life is short. It takes five months to shoot this series,” he said. “Do I want to sacrifice them by telling something that does not stimulate me?” Bravo added, “I do not want to be a part of a cog that does not tend to take the intelligence of viewers into consideration.”

He explained that while he considers Emily in Paris to be “good entertainment” and “an escape” for audiences,” he is not a fan of the show’s “1990s idea that lovers pull apart, kiss [and] pull apart again.”

“Everything is based on a lack of communication. It’s a bit archaic,” he noted, adding, “I don’t really have any freedom. And as people are starting to give it to me elsewhere, I am getting a taste for it.”

Disappointing Storylines

Bravo expressed his disappointment in the script for Emily in Paris season 5 in a September 2024 interview with SheKnows.

“I don’t really read what’s online, but reading the script this last season, it was like, ‘I don’t really like what it’s becoming and where this storyline is going,’” Bravo explained. “You know, at the end of the day, I’m just an actor, and I’m here to say my lines, but, yeah, it’s kind of weird.”

This is different from previous comments he made to Vogue earlier this year, where Bravo gushed about working with Collins on season 4, saying, “I’ve never been so close to Lily before in terms of what we brought to Gabriel and Emily.”

“This season is all about maturity,” he told the outlet in May. “It’s been five years since we shot season 1 — since then, some of us in the cast have gotten married, some of us have kids, or new relationships, or new apartments.”

He continued, “We really wanted to take it to the next level, not in terms of passion, but in terms of maturity and the connection between them. There’s a lot of problems that weren’t addressed for three seasons which we’re confronting now.”

Growing Out Gabriel’s Hair

Bravo debuted Gabriel’s long hair in season 4 of the Netflix series and wants to keep the trend going for season 5.

“I have been trying to have longer hair on the show since season 1,” the Emily in Paris star told THR in September. “And since only one day passes [between seasons 3 and 4], if I need to have long hair on a season then I need to go through the transition phase where you have s— hair and it doesn’t look like anything.”

He added, “So [I decided] to sacrifice season 4 in order to have long hair in season 5. I just wanted something different. I am always clean-shaven and five months of [constantly] shaving is not very nice for your skin or your soul.”

Threesome Finale

Bravo shared one of his steamier ideas on how to wrap up the show’s divisive love triangle between Emily, Gabriel and Camille (Camille Razat). “From what I gathered, it should end up in a threesome,” Bravo told Extra in August. “Everybody is happy and the world is reunited.”

However, the actor quickly clarified that he meant “throuple” instead of “threesome,” saying, “A throuple. Sorry! Poor choice of words. Or maybe not.”
