Tom Hiddleston and Zawe Ashton have become parents of two.
Hiddleston, 44, revealed in a new interview with GQ published on Monday, December 29, that he and Ashton, 41, welcomed their second baby. According to the outlet, the couple’s newborn arrived “the other day.”
The Marvel actor referred to the birth as the “most beautiful, profound, earth-shattering, life-altering” experience.
Hiddleston also gave a small glimpse of his and Ashton’s private life as he returned home to his family after spending most of the year in Nepal filming his upcoming movie Tenzing.
“I was reading the FT, and I was like, ‘This is great. A perfect night. Dog on my lap. Everyone’s here!’ I was feeling so happy to be together, to be the pack,” he told the outlet. “I love my ordinary life and I like the part of myself that’s really ordinary.”
Hiddleston and Ashton started dating after starring in the 2019 revival of the Broadway show Betrayal. The couple confirmed they were engaged in June 2022. Four months later, they welcomed their first child. In June, Ashton revealed she and Hiddleston were expecting baby No. 2 by showing off her baby bump in a light blue ruffled gown.
“I feel really lucky to be working with someone that I know and who’s been such a champion of me at this sensitive red-carpet dressing moment,” Ashton told Vogue of her maternity look. “I feel like I’ll be very held on an evening where, as an expectant mother, you can feel a little bit exposed.”
Rumors later swirled that Hiddleston and Ashton were married after some outlets reported that the pair referred to each other as husband and wife. The Fresh Meat actress addressed the speculation and clarified the situation during an August episode of the BBC’s “Miss Me?” podcast.
“We’ve been engaged for a long time and there are, I think there have been publications that have named us husband and wife already,” Ashton said at the time. “And those text messages [from our friends and family have] some toxic paragraphs that were thrown my way like, ‘OK, no invite? Whatever.’ It’s like, ‘No, no, no, it didn’t happen. We didn’t do it in secret.’ It’s just, like, a semantic thing.”
Ashton also explained why she and Hiddleston use the titles of husband and wife when describing their relationship despite not walking down the aisle quite yet.
“We call each other husband and wife because, at some point, [saying] girlfriend-boyfriend [when we have a] kid, and another on the way, does that feel right?” she quipped. “It’s also pissing off people who are actually marrying. So, like, you realize that’s just not real yet.”
Ashton added that for now, she and Hiddleston are enjoying their extended engagement period.
“We’ve talked about the spiritual bond and the anchoring for what it does for you as a couple and as a family, [which] is really appealing to both of us,” she reflected. “But also, engagement has been wonderful. You can’t cheat the process, and people [often] rush through engagement. Engagement is really useful. … That’s a big yes that opens up a whole new understanding between you and each other’s families because you are saying yes to each other’s whole line.”
