Jax Taylor, who rose to reality TV fame on Bravo’s “Vanderpump Rules,” has shared a candid update with fans about his mental health.

Taylor, 45, posted a message to his Instagram page Sept. 2 about recent diagnoses he received during his time at “an intensive inpatient treatment facility” over a month ago.

He began his caption by saying he was “scared of the unknown” when he entered treatment.

“After many years of knowing something was wrong but not knowing exactly what it was, I recently learned that I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and PTSD,” he said.

Bipolar disorder is a lifelong condition that “causes extreme mood swings,” according to the Mayo Clinic. There are multiple types of the disorder with varying symptoms.

PTSD, or post-traumatic stress disorder, can occur after someone experiences a “shocking, scary, or dangerous event,” according to the National Institute of Mental Health. Taylor did not elaborate on the details of either diagnosis in his post.

“It’s been a lot to process and an emotional time for me, however I’ve come home to my son with a new found sense of peace,” Taylor said in the post.

Taylor shares son Cruz, 3, with wife Brittany Cartwright, who filed for divorce from him on Aug. 27, per court documents obtained by TODAY.com.

The couple’s ups and downs have been well documented on “Vanderpump Rules” and more recently the Bravo spinoff “The Valley.” The two got married in June 2019, and the big day was shown on “VPR.” They also starred in their own spinoff, “Vanderpump Rules: Jax & Brittany Take Kentucky,” which aired on Bravo in 2017.

“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t scared for the future but my focus is just trying to be a better version of myself than I was yesterday. Mental health is a lifelong battle of not letting it control you but rather you learning to control it,” Taylor wrote in his post.

“Thank you everyone who has reached out in support and who also shared their own personal struggles with me. Your messages have helped me more than you know,” he concluded.

People reported Aug. 20 that Taylor was preparing to exit a treatment center he checked into in July.

On July 31, Taylor posted on Instagram about “working on getting better” for himself and his son.

In addition to Taylor and Cartwright, “The Valley” cast includes Kristen Doute, Luke Broderick, Danny Booko, Nia Booko, Jesse Lally, Michelle Lally, Jason Caperna and Janet Caperna, and the show has started filming for Season 2.

TODAY.com spotted the cast filming Aug. 21 at Jax’s Studio City, a California bar recently opened by Taylor and Cartwright. At the time, the bar was temporarily rebranded as “Britt’s.”

Cartwright posted about the rebrand on her Instagram page Aug. 22. Like Taylor, she has also shared photos with Cruz.

“Thick as thieves,” she captioned an Instagram post Aug. 4, which included a photo of her and Cruz smiling for the camera.

Cartwright said in her divorce petition she is seeking joint legal and physical custody of Cruz.
