UPDATE 12/7/24 4:00 p.m. ET — Barry Keoghan asked fans to “please be respectful” after he deleted his Instagram account.
“I can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to,” he wrote in an X statement on Saturday, December 7. “I have to respond now because it’s getting to a place where too many lines are being crossed. I deactivated my account because I can no longer let this stuff distract me from my family and my work.”
He added, “Absolute lies, hatred, disgusting commentary about my appearance, character, how I am as a parent and every other inhumane thing you can imagine, dragging my character and everything I worked extremely hard for and stand for.”
Keoghan stressed that he wanted his 2-year-old son, Brando, to be able to look up to him without reading the rumors.

Barry Keoghan appeared to delete his social media page following his breakup with Sabrina Carpenter.
As of Saturday, December 7, Keoghan’s official Instagram account redirects to an unavailable page that notes “the link you follow may be broken or the page may have been removed.” It is not clear why Keoghan, 32, scrubbed his profile.
Hours earlier, he uploaded an Instagram Story mirror selfie after a workout to show off his bulging biceps, according to a screenshot obtained by the Daily Mail.
Us Weekly confirmed earlier this week that Keoghan and Carpenter, 25, called it quits after nearly one year of dating.
“It’s been challenging for their relationship since she started going on tour and has been gone a lot,” a source exclusively told Us. “Their schedules were not aligning. All the time spent apart it was hard to maintain a relationship amid her career exploding.”
A second insider explained that the breakup happened within the “last month.”
“This has been the busiest time period for them both and their schedules weren’t aligning,” the second source added. “They had hoped that they would be able to spend more time together and that took a toll on the relationship.”
Carpenter and the actor, who recently finished filming the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, ultimately split on amicable terms.
“They are cordial and it was not contentious,” the second insider further explained. “Both agreed it wasn’t working. That was something they struggled with, being in different places all the time.”
Carpenter, who earned her first Grammy nominations last month, recently completed the U.S. leg of her Short ’N’ Sweet tour before releasing her Nonsense Christmas special on Netflix Friday, December 6.
Keoghan, meanwhile, has been busy filming projects like Bird, Hurry Up Tomorrow, Amo Saddam and the aforementioned Peaky Blinders production. He is also “very focused” on his family life, another source told Us. (Keoghan shares 2-year-old son Brando with a past partner.)
Keoghan and Carpenter first met at a Paris Fashion Week event in fall 2023 and started exclusively dating the following January. Since then, he’s stepped out at several of her concerts including April’s Coachella festival. They made their red carpet debut at the Met Gala one month later. Keoghan also played Carpenter’s love interest in her “Please Please Please” music video.
“All I’m going to say is I’m incredibly blessed,” he said on the “Louis Theroux Podcast” last month. “[She’s] such a strong, independent lady who’s massively talented and yeah, [she’s] pretty special.”
