Scott Foley is giving fans a glimpse into his role in Scream 7.

The actor, 53, is making his return to the beloved franchise after playing an iconic Ghostface 25 years ago in Scream 3.

“The character I played, Roman Bridger, sort was unceremoniously killed, as he should have been, but when I got the call from [director] Kevin Williamson, who I’ve known forever — I did Dawson’s Creek years ago, and then Scream, and Kevin’s been an acquaintance for years — and when he called and asked me back, I was shocked, surprised, but so thrilled,” Foley told Us Weekly exclusively at iHeartRadio’s Z100 Jingle Ball in New York City on Friday, December 12. “I loved working with those people. And I got a chance to see Neve [Campbell] and David [Arquette] again, and it was great. It was really fun.”

Foley’s character, Roman, is the director of Stab 3 — the third installment in the film-within-a-film series based on the Ghostface murders — who turns out to be Sidney’s half-brother and the killer in Scream 3. Roman is ultimately killed by Dewey (played by Arquette) after being stabbed repeatedly by Sidney (Campbell).

While we prompted Foley to give Us anything about what fans can expect from the new film, the truth is, he doesn’t know.

“I haven’t read the script, so I have no idea,” he told Us. “I mean, they didn’t give me a script. They’re like, you’re gonna do this and I did it.”

Scott Foley was in for quite the surprise when he discovered who the killer was in Scream 3. “When I was cast, they didn’t tell me that I was the killer,” Foley, 51, told The A.V. Club on Monday, March 25. “They kept everything so hush-hush. Back in those days, I don’t even think there […]

It’s no surprise that the team behind Scream 7 is keeping the details under wraps: the highly anticipated seventh installment in the slasher franchise is bringing back more than one familiar face.

In addition to Foley, Campbell and Arquette, legacy cast members Courteney Cox and Matthew Lillard are also expected to make appearances. Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown will reprise their roles from the most recent films, with the cast rounded out by Isabel May, Joel McHale, Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Mckenna Grace, Michelle Randolph and Jimmy Tatro.

The official synopsis for the seventh film reads, “When a new Ghostface killer emerges in the quiet town where Sidney Prescott has built a new life, her darkest fears are realized as her daughter becomes the next target. Determined to protect her family, Sidney must face the horrors of her past to put an end to the bloodshed once and for all.”

Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic, Inc What’s your favorite scary movie? Another Ghostface is coming to up the kill count in Scream VII — but who from the OG cast will make an appearance? After sitting out from the franchise’s sixth installment, Neve Campbell revealed in March that she would be reprising her role of final girl Sidney […]

Lillard previously gave Us three words to describe the new film: “Smart, familiar — [because] Kevin’s back, and there’s a familiarity about Ghostface — and exceptional,” he told Us in September, adding, “But reading the script, having Kevin at the helm, having Neve back, it just sort of made sense. And as a fan of the franchise, as someone that dearly cares about the franchise, I was really excited to be asked. I’m not gonna lie.”

The Scream franchise is not Foley’s first encounter with a fervent fanbase. The actor starred as Jake Ballard on Shonda Rhimes’ hit political thriller Scandal opposite Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn for seven seasons from 2012 to 2018.

While Scream has been revisited many times over the years, Scandal fans are clamoring for more of the hit series.

“I think it would take Shonda Rhimes getting excited, having an idea of where all those characters are in their lives,” Foley told Us of what it would take for a Scandal reboot. “Are we almost 10 years out? Yeah, look, Kerry’s everywhere right now. She’s got the new Knives Out sequel. I think it would take her slowing down a minute to give us time to shoot some more Scandal.”

He concluded: “So, you know, Kerry, Shonda, if they say yes, I’m carrying their coattails.”

Scream 7 will be released in theaters on February 27, 2026.
