The body of a climber reported missing in Montana’s Glacier National Park last week has been found, park officials said Monday.

The remains of mountaineer Grant Marcuccio, 32, were spotted by air one-third of a mile east of McPartland Peak on Sunday, the National Park Service said.

Marcuccio, of Whitefish, Montana, was reported missing one week earlier, on Aug. 18, after he failed to appear at a rendezvous spot, the agency said.

“Cause of death is still under investigation, but traumatic injuries and location of the body are indicative of a fall,” the Park Service said in a statement.

Marcuccio had left his hiking group with plans to summit McPartland Peak alone, the park service said. The peak is higher than 8,000 feet.

Searches on the ground and by air were conducted last week in an effort to find him.

His body was spotted around 2 p.m. Sunday by Two Bear Air, a rescue organization based in Whitefish, less than 30 miles west of the more than 1 million-acre national park, park officials said. It was then recovered and taken to the coroner.
