An investigation has been launched after a 12-year-old girl in Connecticut was found dead inside of her home.

The Enfield Police Department announced in a statement via Facebook on Wednesday, March 18, that officials responded to a report of an “unresponsive female party” at a residence around 10:25 a.m. Upon their arrival, officers “confirmed the passing of a 12-year-old female resident of this address.”

“The cause of death was not immediately apparent,” the release stated.

In light of her death, the department “secured a search warrant to permit a full and complete review of this incident scene.” The department added that they planned to spend the “remainder of the evening” conducting an investigation.

Authorities have not revealed her cause of death yet, though they wrote that there does not seem to be a public threat as of this time.

WFSB, News 8 and a verified GoFundMe page have all identified the deceased as Eve Rogers.

Eve’s mother, Melanie Federline, reportedly found her dead when she tried to wake her up that morning, according to WFSB. The outlet also added that her family was cooperating with police amid the investigation.

Enfield Police Chief Alaric Fox told the station that it was “still not clear if a crime took place.” However, Fox added that it was important that the scene remain secured so that authorities can thoroughly investigate what led to Rogers’ death.

“We’re talking to anyone that we think, including family members, that might have relevant information,” he said.

Fox also told News 8 that authorities were gathering information by conducting interviews, which he said is “a routine part of any investigation and certainly will be a part of this one.”

A GoFundMe page has since been launched to help Rogers’ family pay for funeral costs. The page also shared insight into who Rogers was as a person, describing her as “an unmatched energy in this world.”

“She was filled with passion, justice and light. A light the world needed,” the post read. “This tragedy has left [her family] heartbroken and struggling to cope with the sudden emotional and financial burdens that come with such a loss.”

The Enfield Police Department did not immediately respond to Us Weekly’s request for comment regarding an update in the case.

Following the tragedy, the Connecticut Department of Children and Families addressed the incident in a statement to News 8. “We can confirm the department received a report on this tragic, untimely death and are conducting a joint investigation with law enforcement,” the statement said.
